IBCPC: Our Values Statement
As part of our ongoing reflection on who we are and what we stand for, we conducted an unscientific piece of research asking you “what values are important to you” and invited our members to share the values that matter most to them within the IBCPC community. Your thoughtful contributions shaped the development of this values statement below which we believe truly reflects your collective voice and the meaningful role IBCPC plays in your lives.
1. Connection
We are united by movement and strengthened by the deep bonds we share. Our community thrives on understanding without explanation—where every member feels seen, supported, and valued. Connection is the heart of our culture, built through shared experiences on and off the water.
2. Strength
We honour strength in all its forms—physical, emotional, and collective. Our journey through breast cancer has shaped our resilience and expanded our capacity for courage. We embrace new challenges, celebrate personal growth, and support one another in becoming stronger than we ever imagined.
3. Tenacity
We paddle forward with determination and purpose. Whether facing unknown waters or personal milestones, we champion perseverance. Our commitment to showing up—for ourselves and each other—drives us to set new goals and pursue them with focus and grit.
4. Inclusivity & Support
We foster an environment where everyone belongs. Without the need to explain our stories, we simply understand each other. Through compassion, active listening, and unconditional support, we uplift our members and ensure that no one navigates their journey alone.
5. Sisterhood/Brotherhood
Our sisterhood extends across communities and around the world. We cherish the lifelong friendships forged through shared experiences, mutual respect, and genuine care. Every warm hug from a pink paddle sister/brother reinforces the powerful bond we share.
6. Joy in Movement
We celebrate the pure joy of being on the water. Through fitness, laughter, adventure, and shared purpose, we embrace each day with gratitude. The rhythm of paddling reminds us of the beauty of living fully, boldly, and with intention.
7. Inspiration & Advocacy
We are proud to show others facing breast cancer that life after diagnosis is not only possible—it can be vibrant, active, and deeply meaningful. Through our visibility and passion, we inspire confidence, hope, and belief in the strength within every survivor.
8. Community & Belonging
To be part of this organisation is to be part of something bigger than oneself. We value the collective spirit that lifts us, unites us, and reminds us that together, we can navigate any challenge and celebrate every victory.
