Saying, “Thanks”

Saying thank you never tasted so good!
It was a celebratory day on April 3 at the Pictou Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College when some members of Pictou County’s Women Alike Abreast ARiver Dragon Boat Team showed up to the school with treats.
Armed with fresh, hot pizzas, cold beverages and delicious, sweet cake, members of the fundraising committee turned up in the carpentry shop to say thank you to the first-year carpentry students and three females from the electrical course who built and wired a “she shed” that the dragon boaters are raffling off as a fundraiser.
Students took a lunch break to sit amidst the sawdust and freshly cut lumber to enjoy their tasty reward – and they surprised the breast cancer survivors yet again with their generosity in purchasing a large number of tickets on the shed.
The shed comes completely finished inside and out and will be decorated with a day bed with coverings, a bistro table and chairs, lamp and other furnishings and pink Adirondack chairs for the veranda plus sweet little window boxes outside!
The value of the shed is approximately $15,000 and includes free delivery within 100 kms to the lucky winner, thanks to the support and sponsorship of Tri-County Towing.
The dragon boat team also extended its gratitude to Proudfoots Home Hardware Building Centre in Stellarton for supplying all of the building materials, and Graybar Canada in New Glasgow for supplying materials for the electrical.
The shed will be on display at the Pictou County Wellness Centre until the raffle draw which will take place July 1.
The monies raised through this fundraiser will help the group, which includes 19 breast cancer survivors from the Pictou County area, travel to competition in August 2026 for the “2026 IBCPC International Participatory Dragon Boat Festival” in Aix-les-Bains, France.
The dragon boaters have been selling tickets at various venues throughout the county and will continue to do so right up until the raffle draw. The team hopes this fundraiser will be one of their biggest.
