If only a year ago someone had told us that we were going to participate in a European Dragon Boat championship as part of a team of breast cancer women survivors, I think all of us would have laughed in disbelief.
Because, honestly, what we are experiencing today is like a dream, but one of those dreams that we could never imagine, because a year ago many of us did not even know that the Dragon Boat existed.
Have you imagined yourselves practicing canoeing, rowing, or something similar?
I, of course not... So that, what we are living it seems so incredible to me that sometimes I am in a dream.
Felling in that way and without being able to imagine or planning it either, ten of us found ourselves paddling at the European Dragon Boat Championship that were held in Banyoles last September.
To be exact, we not only participated in one race, but we also participated in three of 200-meter and three other of 500-meter races.
Isn't that unbelievable? When many of us were just finishing cancer treatment or beginning to work again or going through the breast surgery reconstruction.
I find it so incredible and magical to be able to paddle all together.
Meeting in Banyoles together with other European teams was great. We were able to enjoy the sporting atmosphere and camaraderie between all the teams. Certainly, we were extremely impressed to see the physical strength, professionalism, and speed with which all the teams participated in the races.
Seeing how each team warmed up before each race, how they all greeted and congratulated each other, feeling integrated in such a sporting and high-level environment, but there we were, although perhaps we did not have the physical strength or coordination that they had, what we had left over was joy and desire to enjoy all of it.
We competed with other teams of admirable and inspiring women in the BCS category and although it was not possible to win a medal, we surpassed ourselves in each of the races and that was a great victory for us.
Feeling part of the most important Dragon Boat celebration in Europe was an incredible experience. Hopefully, we can participate in many other celebrations of this sport that has brought us together to be able to move forward with strength, confidence, and joy, paddling together for the LIFE.
Sí tan sólo hace un año alguien nos hubiese dicho que íbamos a participar en un campeonato europeo de Dragon Boat formando parte de un equipo de mujeres supervivientes de cáncer de mama, creo que todas nosotras nos hubiésemos echado a reír sin poder creérnoslo.
Porque sinceramente, lo que estamos viviendo a día de hoy es como un sueño, pero uno de esos sueños que jamás podríamos llegar a imaginar, porque hace un año muchas de nosotras no sabíamos ni siquiera que existía el Dragon Boat.
¿Os habíais imaginado alguna de vosotras practicando piragüismo, remo o algo parecido?
Yo, desde luego no… así que me parece tan increíble lo que vivimos que a veces realmente pienso que estoy en un sueño.
Y así sin poderlo imaginar, ni tampoco planear diez de nosotras nos vimos remando en una carrera en el Campeonato Europeo de Dragon Boat que se celebró en Banyoles el pasado mes de septiembre.
Pero para ser exactos, no sólo participamos en una carrera si no que participamos en tres carreras de 200 metros y otras tres carreras de 500 metros.
¿No os parece increíble? Pero si hace cuatro días muchas de nosotras estábamos acabando el tratamiento oncológico, algunas se empezaban a incorporar de nuevo a la vida laboral y otras seguían con la reconstrucción de su pecho.
Me parece tan increíble y mágico poder remar todas juntas.
Encontrarnos en Banyoles junto con otros equipos europeos fue genial, pudimos disfrutar del ambiente deportivo y de compañerismo que había entre todos los equipos. La verdad es que nos impresionó mucho el ver la fortaleza física, profesionalidad y la velocidad con la que todos los equipos participaron en las carreras.
Ver cómo cada equipo hacía el calentamiento antes de cada carrera, cómo se saludaban y felicitaban todos ellos, sentirnos integradas en un ambiente tan deportivo y de alto nivel, pero allí estábamos nosotras, que, aunque quizás no teníamos la fuerza física ni la coordinación que tenían ellos, lo que nos sobraba fue Alegría y ganas de disfrutar de todo ello.
Competimos con otros equipos de admirables e inspiradoras mujeres en la categoría BCS y no, no fue posible ganar ninguna medalla, pero sí en cada una de las carreras nos superamos a nosotras mismas y eso sí fue una gran Victoria.
Sentirnos partícipes de la celebración más importante de Europa de Dragon Boat fue una experiencia increíble. Ojalá podamos participar en muchas otras celebraciones de este deporte que nos ha hecho encontrarnos para poder seguir adelante con fuerza, confianza y alegría, juntas remando por la VIDA.
