Celebrating 1st Birthday and Official Club Launch
Submitted by Janette Fry, Co-Founder - Dragons Abreast Blue Mountains.
Dragons Abreast Blue Mountains is a very new and small Breast Cancer Survivor club in the Blue Mountains area of New South Wales, Australia approximately 1.5 hours west of Sydney.
Recently on July 6th of this year we celebrated our First Birthday and Official Launch Day. We currently have 14 members and are building with several new members ready to join.
We paddle on the beautiful and picturesque Wentworth Falls Lake and our Motto is to “Dream Encourage Inspire”
We are a member group of the National Body “Dragons Abreast Australia” as well as the International Breast Cancer Paddlers Commission and our goal is to promote “Wellness on the Water” and recovery after the trauma of a diagnosis through the sport of dragon boat paddling.
Seven of our current members have registered for the IBCPC event in France in 2026. We have joined with one of the DAA composite teams travelling to France and are so looking forward to meeting up with Fellow BCS to share in this momentous occasion.
Pictured is our team on our Birthday, with our local Federal Member of Parliament Susan Templeman, who is a staunch supporter of our club.
Second picture is on our Lake on our Birthday, it was a tribute BCS paddle for one of our Angels Abreast. Our boat is named “Pink Zafira” (Zafira is Arabic meaning Success) so She is “Pink Success”
Third picture is our Logo, the mountains in tribute to our beautiful Blue Mountains, the water where we paddle and our Pink Dragon Spirit!!
