We all know Dr. Don McKenzie, or Dr. Don as he is affectionately known to us for his work in research 27 years ago into why breast cancer survivors should participate in upper body exercise and how this led to the establishment of breast cancer dragon boat teams across the globe.
We congratulated Don on our Facebook page as soon as we heard about his award being official, and we endorse those same congratulations again now. We had a little bit of inside running as our President, Meri Gibson was asked by the officials assessing these awards to support the nomination when it was made in mid-2021, but was sworn to secrecy until the award was fully approved and announced.
The official announcement was made in January of this year and is as follows:
Dr. Donald McKenzie is appointed to the Order of Canada January 7, 2022 Dr. Donald McKenzie, OC, MSM is appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada One of Canada’s highest civilian honours created in 1967, the Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
