The newest team from the South East of the USA shares their paddling story.
Better Watch Out: There’s a new team in town and it’s hell.
The Southeast USA Region is going to be “Hell” to recon with this year. Our newest team, Hell Gate Sea Dragons is the first and only dragon boat team in Martin County, Florida, launching in February 2020 on the St. Lucie River in Palm City Florida. Even though COVID hit us and we all had to pause our water activities, this new team stayed together by kayaking, biking, and exercising together.
Now HGSD is showing their swager and have already participated in two race venues. In December 2021 they won Gold in the Women's and Silver in the BCP divisions. This year they’ve already taken Bronze in Senior Womens.
HGSD was formed to promote participation and inclusiveness by creating opportunities for all members to compete in all levels of dragon boating. Their geographic area includes the Florida counties of Martain, St. Lucie, Indian River and Palm Beach. They aim to educate, train, and encourage all members while focusing on Breast Cancer Paddlers and their Supporters.
Could it be a good omen that the ribbons on the latest race matched their new uniforms?
