News from Australia

This report from Sarah O’Reagan from Missabittattitti (MBT) on the Australia Coast to Coast Regatta held on the Sunshine Coast on the 7-9th May.

This was the first major regatta in Australia post Covid and wow did the BCS teams turn out, there were representatives from 13 BCS teams there. Missabittattitti (MBT), what a weekend we had at the Coast to Coast. So much fun, so much heart. The chance to meet with BCS teams from all over Australia and to have Meri Gibson, the President of IBCPC come all the way from New Zealand to join us and paddle was so very special.

There was so much camaraderie both on and off the water with over 70 paddlers joining us for a very special PINK dinner on the Saturday evening and it was just brilliant that we were able to put 7 pink teams on the water on Friday and Saturday and 9 on Sunday made up of 13 clubs from around Australia. And wow the competition was fierce, for MBT to come away with three gold medals was the result of the most awesome effort by everyone from paddlers, drummers, sweeps and all of the reserves along with those that paddled their hearts out in the women’s and mixed categories.

Special thanks must go to our awesome coaches, Sue von Richter and Di Clohessy. We cannot thank our supporters enough, the cheering from the side-lines was just fantastic.

At the end of the day, we are one and as always, we carried you all in our hearts, but today it was our angels that got us across the line. Sharon Therese Hammond I’m convinced we felt you breathe on our backs and you brought us home for gold.
